Styles and Lengths

Lengths:
Regardless of the terminology…you choose which necklace length you prefer!
A necklace can of course be any length you wish but the traditional pearl necklaces come in the following lengths (remember it really depends on your physical make up and your personal taste)
Choker: 35-40cm (14”-16”) in length. Should nestle around the base of the neck.
Princess: 45cm (18”) in length.
Matinee: 50-60cm (20”-24”)
Opera: 70-80cm (28”-32”)
Sautoir or Rope: Any pearl necklace that is longer than opera length.
Bib: Multiple strands of pearls, each shorter than the one below in one necklace.
Graduated: A necklace comprised of pearls which taper in size from smaller to larger.
Uniform: A necklace that appears to be made of pearls of all the same size but there is generally a slight  difference in size between the centre pearls and the end pearls.

Styles:
Illusion: Single or multi strand necklace on nylon filament. The pearls are spaced along each strand to give the illusion of ‘floating’.
Traditional: Knotted or not on silk. The knotting separates the pearls to prevent them rubbing and also in the event of  breaking ensures that the majority of pearls remain on the silk.
Wire:  A nylon coated stainless steel multi strand wire (soft and flexible and will not tarnish)..available in a number of colours but generally in gold coloured and silver-plated.
Rubber/ nitrile: A black, extremely strong alcohol and perfume resistant black rubber in various diameters from 1.5mm to 6mm. Used in necklaces and bracelets.
Leather and Suede: Natural round leather or microfibre suede used in necklaces, bracelets and ropes or wrap necklaces.
(Microfibre suede is a synthetic suede which comes in a huge range of colours and is fully washable. I have found that this is far superior to naturel suede, which tends to become quite  hard and is not easily cleaned.)
Chain : I do make necklaces of various designs on sterling silver or 9kt gold chain.
